Alex's Albums of 2010

I know the concept of year end music lists is a bit pointless and nerdy but because I read too much online music journalism and because VH1 was the only music channel that came free with my parents cable package when I was a kid and because the inside of my brain is basically just a series of graphs I think about this stuff quite a lot. Also how can it be a bad idea to share a bunch of stuff that you like?

So, with that disclaimer covered,  here are the albums that I loved the most in 2010.

1. How to Dress Well - Love Remains
2. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
3. Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Before Today
4. Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
5. Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot
6. Caribou - Swim
7. Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me
8. Gil Scott-Heron - I'm New Here
9. Das Racist - Sit Down Man
10. Drake - Thank Me Later

It's difficult not to give the top spot to Kanye but he gets enough love from Pitchfork. The sound of the How to Dress Well record still feels like a revelation to me and I still listen to it most days so I've decided it is the winner EVEN THOUGH Kanye has this year proven himself to be the greatest pop star of our generation.

So there you go.

We're playing at the Enterprise in Camden on Sunday. We're on at 8.20. Get down.

SOUND SAVERS SPECIAL OPENING OFFER!!!!!!!

Announcing the grand opening of Sound Savers, a new recording studio in Bow, East London, ran by myself and Mark Jasper.
We have been slaving away for the past couple of months sound proofing and treating and painting and polishing and the studio is now ready to go.

We have a special opening offer to spread the word. For a limited time only recording and/or mixing will be £50 PER DAY.
That's pretty cheap! For once it pays to be an early adopter.

If you are interested in recording at Sound Savers email alex_clegg@hotmail.co.uk or markjohnjasper@googlemail.com

Our first video...

So here's a video made for our song 'Elite/Corrigans' which we recorded in April this year.

The song was originally demoed in the summer of 2008.

I shot this footage in Brompton hospital, London, May 2010.

It was directed and edited by our good friends Harry Fisher and James Eyre

We think they did a nice job,

We hope you do too.

Good night,

James.

Music Business...

Happy Autumnal Sunday to you all,

Here's a great essay by Colin Greenwood from Radiohead on the current state of the music industry and their quandry on how to release their new material. Very interesting stuff from one of my favourite artists of all time.

In other news, i just saw the first edit for our video for Elite/Corrigans. Its compiled of around 60 shorts i recorded on my mobile phone during my month in hospital in May this year. Edited by our good friend Harry and Jim. Hopefully have it up here within the next month.

love,

James.

DEEP IMPACT

Hello.
Nothing on here for a while. Been busy putting a real live band together (big shout outs to Andy Clydesdale on bass and Tom Browne on drums), writing new songs and soundproofing Soundsavers, our new recording studio and practice space in Bow.

Here's a new song called Deep Impact. It's about trying to save the world and failing. Click the down arrow to download an mp3.

Echo Chamber Soul

Here's a new tune. Jim wrote this one on his hospital ward on some Kanye 'Through The Wire'-style inspiration and we recorded it last week. I'm quite proud of the production, there's a lot going on, get the cans out.

A couple of tracks

Greetings. It's been a while. For those that know Jim he's home and feeling good.
We started these two tracks in April and finished them yesterday. Skateboard pt. 2 is about feeling good about what you have without wanting more (Johnathon Ross drove past in a ridiculous red sports car while we were recording the vocals yesterday. He was smoking a giant cigar and listening to that whistling song from Kill Bill really loud. He wouldn't have understood the sentiment).
I think Jim wrote the lyrics to Elite/Corrigans in some kind of psychic vision of his own future. Check out the four part harmony in the middle, gets me every time.

Click on the down arrow on the right side of the players to download mp3s of the tracks.

Skateboard pt. 2 coming soon.....

Friday 19 March 2010

Hello.
Welcome to the blog for our new band.
In the last couple of months we've nearly finished recording about 10 songs. We'll put them all on here when they're finished. Remember: if you give away music for free then you can take as much as you want without worrying about what Lars Ullrich thinks.
Here's links to download mp3s of the first 2:

Green Milk: http://www.mediafire.com/?gxmhdfgzmow
Feathers: http://www.mediafire.com/?umztjjtjtml

We're playing at the Wilmington Arms in Angel some time in April. I don't know when yet.
